I have Windows XP Home, SP1 on a 1.2 GHz Athlon processor, 256MB RAM. More
than 15GB free space on one hard drive and 180GB free on another.
I recently installed a Sony DRU510A DVD burner. Having problems, I talked
to Sony support. They fixed the problem but also suggested that I update my
VIA Bus Master IDE Controller which uses a driver from 2001. She told me
VIA has a newer 4 IN 1 driver.
I downloaded it and ran the install exec, but it doesn't update my driver.
When I tried running Update Driver from the Device Mgr., it said there were
no newer drivers on my system.
A VIA tech support forum suggested that uninstall my current driver, then
run the install exec. I confess that I'm afraid to do it. If Update Driver
can't find a newer driver after it was supposedly put somewhere on my system
by the VIA install exec, I'm afraid it also won't find it after I've
uninstalled the current driver. I would also have thought that the install
exec would have overwritten any old driver.
Can anyone give me any courage or suggestions here?
Thanks................Pam
