hi, i have set up a network with 2 of my computers. i
have broadband on one and use ICS to share the internet
with the other computer.every time i switch both
computers on, the network does start working because i
can share all the files on both computers. the problem
is, i cant access the internet with the second computer
that hasnt got the broadband connected to it. but then if
i disable the firewall on the first computer with the
broadband then run the home networking wizard on the
second computer, i can then access the internet and
enable the firewall again. Im using Norton internet
security 2002 and have configured it for home networking
but i still end up disabling it for the internet to work
on the second computer. can anyone help?
thanks :)

Buy a router and stop using ICS. Your problems will disappear.

While troubleshooting the ICS problems:

1. Enable XP's Internet Connection Firewall on the host computer's
broadband connection to protect your network from Internet hackers.

2. Un-install Norton Internet Security. That's the only way to know
whether it's causing the problems. Don't just disable it. Un-install
it.

Permanently disable XP's Internet Connection Firewall on both
computers' local area network connections. It serves no useful
purpose on your LAN connections, and it blocks file and printer
sharing.

The next time that the problem occurs, run these tests on the second
computer to help find the cause:

1. On the ICS host computer, right click the local area network
connection and click Status | Support | Details. It should show:

IP Address: 192.168.0.1
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: none
DNS Server = none

2. On the ICS client computer, right click the local area network
connection and click Status | Support | Details. It should show:

IP Address: 192.168.0.x (1<x<255)
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1
DNS Server = 192.168.0.1

3. If #1 and #2 are right, open a command prompt window on the client
and enter these lines. Each one should get four replies:

ping 192.168.0.1
ping 216.239.39.100
ping www.google.com

4. If #1-#3 are right, enter these addresses in Internet Explorer.
They should both take you to the Google web page:

http://216.239.39.100
http://www.google.com

When everything is working, re-install NIS and disable XP's firewall.
