ICS stopped working

After almost a year of working great, the ISC has stopped working between my XP host computer and my wife's Win 98 SE client computer. This happened after a series of power flucuations, however the computers were off at that time and are protected by good surge protectors. Both computers powered up OK and the network connections still works great between the two computers and their associated printers and scanners.

The network is just a simple crossover cable and the on-board network connections in the computers.

Any suggestions on what to try or why it would suddenly stop working?

Some possible fixes:

1. Use System Restore on XP to go back in time to before the problem
occurred.

2. Disable and re-enable ICS on XP.

If those suggestions don't help, these steps should help find the
problem:

1. On XP, right click the local area network connection and click
Status | Support | Details. It should show:

IP Address: 192.168.0.1
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: none
DNS Server = none

2. On 98SE, run Winipcfg, select the NIC, and click More Info. It
should show:

IP Address: 192.168.0.x (1<x<255)
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1
DNS Server = 192.168.0.1

3. If #1 and #2 are right, open a command prompt window on 98SE and
enter these lines. Each one should get four replies:

ping 192.168.0.1
ping 216.239.39.100
ping www.google.com

4. If #1-#3 are right, enter these addresses in Internet Explorer on
98SE. They should both take you to the Google web page:

http://www.google.com

Thanks Steve, that took care of it. Somehow the DNS server setting on the client computer had lost it's setting and I guess I overlooked it.
