ICS problems with working file and printer sharing

I have two XP home computers (one just upgraded from ME) with an ethernet
connection and dial-up internet connection.

File and printer sharing works fine.
Although the client can see the host is connected to the internet it cannot
use this connection and tries to dial out on its internal modem instead. I
can ping the host but not any internet site.

The client also seems to be able to dial out through the host but use the
connection once dialed.

I had a similar problem once before when the client was ME and eventually
resolved it by unistalling TCP/IP and the modem and deleting the relevant
registry keys in the client. Unfortunately I lost the details on how to do
this (particularly the registry key details) and despite extensive searching
I can't re-locate the information.

Any help gratefully received.

I have the same problem, have you found a fix?

Not yet but from previous experience I'm pretty sure the problem's in the
registry. If no-one can point me towards the relevant info I may just do a
clean reinstall of XP on the client. Seems a bit drastic, though.

I ahve the same problem, have you found a fix?

Yes, I have.

Under advanced properties in my dial up connection (the bit to do with ics)
there is a button for settings. Despite sharing being enabled POP, STMP, and
HTTP servers weren't checked. They are now and all works fine!
