We have Windows 2k server(not running AD) on a small network with 2 pcs and
2 laptops workstations. Internet access is through Starband. We have ICS
running on the server, as well as Zone Alarm Pro. We recently did an update
on Starband, and had to uninstall and reinstall Zone Alarm. All was well
before we did the upgrade. Now, the two laptops are not getting and IP
address automatically. In order to function on the network and get on the
Internet, we have to configure a static IP address.

Does anyone know what the problem might be?

Thank you for your help in advance!

Are the clients set to obtain dhcp automatically?

do an ipconfig /all on the clients and see what the dhcp server is. is it
your server?

Are there alerts in ZA that it's blocking traffic to the clients? adding the
client ips to the trusted local zone in ZA could fix this.

We have Starband Satellite Service, and we cannot use a router with their
modem. We thought ICS was the only other option.

Why cant you use a router?

Starband requires 1 nic card to have the public IP address, they recommend
not to use a router. We have connections coming in from the Internet, and
the software used does not work well though a router.
