This is where I started when I first tried to get ICS going, and no wonder
it wouldn't work, there was no service installed or referred to in the
registry! Don't know where it had gone, but had probably been ripped by a
deinstallation of a 3rd party firewall, or cleared out by a registry
cleaner.
Anyhow, once I had found this out, (and thanks to one of the MVP's for
making a reference to a registry setting, otherwise I would never have
known), ICS ran like a charm and did it's stuff (even though file sharing
didn't work on the client, but that's another story!, see other post about
ICS File Sharing not working on Client)
You need a service called sharedaccess to run for ICS/ICF to work. (it does
help when you know what you are looking for!)
The registry location for the service "sharedaccess" is as follows:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\SharedAccess]
In fact you can find all the services registry entries in this area, so it
seems.
Fortunately I had another "clean" XP Pro setup in the house so was able to
export the registry settings from that, import into my system, REBOOT, and
Network Wizard to ICS happiness.
There is very little on the newsgroups about this, so I thought I would post
in case other have the same problem.
Regards
Tim
