Can anyone help???

I have 5 machines, 4 running win2k and 1 running XP on a workgroup, Internet is setup on one machine (server) running Win2k and works fine (sees all sites and communicates efficently over the internet, it also communicates with the other machines on the workgroup). All the other machine connect to the internet via this machine and its connection, the problem is that these machine cannot see same websites. It can see for instance www.yahoo.com, but not www.microsoft.com (a pain when you need to update), is there any way that ICS could be blocking the websites or could this be purely an ISP problem

I look forward to your response, thanks in advanc

Hi

First thing to check is TCP/IP and see if it'ss set-up correctly on your
systems. Go to www.dslreports.com/tools and run the Tweaks test page, make
any recommended changes and reboot for it to take effect - run that test on
all the PCs on your LAN. Do you also have any firewall on the ICS host?
Does it have any filtering/blocking features set?

Regards

Bill

I am assuming that the only problem you have is that the client system
browsers cannot "see" some sites -- that things like email, ftp, telnet, and
ping work OK. If not, then you have TCP/IP set up incorrectly.

1. if you are running firewall software on the ICS (host) system, then you
may have to lower its protections. Example: ZoneAlarm must be set to
"medium" mode -- "high" can prevent names being resolved from client system
browser calls.

2. if you have VPN software installed on the ICS system, then it can cause
client browing problems even though all other TCP/IP stuff works from these
clients (ping, email pop/smtp, ftp, telnet, etc.) The problem here seems to
be related to ICS providing name services (DNS) to the clients. Example:
with the Cisco VPN, the "deterministic network adapter" that is installed
must be disabled, and even that may not be sufficient to correct browsong
problems.
