As I understand it if I have a cable modem hooked into a
router and and two computers hooked up to the router I do
not need the Windows Internet Connection program. Is that
correct? The Windows Internet Connection program appears
to just get in the way. I have one computer with internet
access and the other one does not althoug both computers
are sharing files with each other. Can I uninstall the
Windows Internet Connection without doing any damage? How
do I do this? Thanks.

Tom

you may delete a specific connection on right click but not the wizard
itself. Things are pretty automatic though by not setting one up through the
wizard if you do things right.

If you have SP1 you can uncheck the Internet Gateway Discovery and Control
Client in optional components.

Ken,

Would you elaborate on this please. I have a similar
situation - 2 systems connected to a linksys wirelss
router and each system has the Internet Connection
Gateway showing up on each. Do I need this? Should I turn
this off or make it go away? Will this cause me any
probalby if it is enabled? Your input is appreciated.
thanks. --Mike

You don't need the icon per se. It allows you to disconnect the host
machine from the client, useful if you are dialing up. Also it allows apps
written to a certain API to open port mappings in ICS automatically.

It shouldn't cause any problems, particularly if you don't have the option
to show it in the notification area checked.
