I'm running Windows 2000 with 2 internet adapters where one is my
internet connection and the other is my local area network. I share my
internet connection using ICS with a networked Windows ME computer
with no problems. But the two computers can't see each other on the
LAN to share a printer and share files.
Here's how they are cabled:
For the Windows 2000 PC:
Ethernet Adapter #1 --> Cable Modem for internet connection
Ethernet Adapter #2 --> Network Hub
For the Windows ME PC:
Ethernet Adapter --> Network Hub
For the Windows 200 PC, the TCP/IP for the internet connection obtain
an IP address automatically, while the LAN TCP/IP has a static local
IP address of 192.168.0.1 (a generic address). I'm figuring that if
Adapter #2 wasn't configured correctly, the ME PC would be able to see
the shared internet connection, right? (The ME PC needs Adapter #2 in
the Windows 2000 PC to get to the internet in Adapter #1.) So, if I
can share the internet, why not my printer?
The networked Windows ME PC has its TCP/IP set to obtain its IP
address automatically. Like I said before, the shared internet
connection works perfectly.
I have File and Printer Sharing installed and active on both
computers, but niether can see the other. I have created a user
account in the Windows 2000 PC for the Windows ME PC to use. Even
without that set up I should be able to see the shared directories in
the ME PC from the 2000 PC, but I can't.
So what am I doing wrong? It's got to be something really stupid and
simple. I just have no idea what it could be.
Thanks a lot.
