i have recently set up home network. my pc (XP PRO) is
wired to a wireless router. my laptop (XP Home) has a
wireless connection. i am trying to enable ICS so that i
can access my internet connection on my laptop. my
network works just fine (i can access files on either
computer.) my ICS works as far as everytime i access the
internet from my laptop, my pc connects to my ISP. so
far so good. but when i surf internet explorer, my
laptop searches and searches for the LAN connection and
is unable to find it and no page is loaded. i can see
communication between the two computers, but there is no
resulting traffic on my internet connection. what am i
doing wrong?

other information...
i am running ZoneAlarm (firewall) on each computer. I do
not think this is the problem because i have allowed the
IP range 192.168.x.000 - 192.168.x.255. and there are no
alert logs when i try to connect.

i have disabled MS's firewall on each computer.

thanks for helping.

On the pc, set ZoneAlarm's Internet Zone Security to Med. and set the
Trusted Zone Security to Low.

If that doesn't fix it, these tests should help find the problem:

1. On the pc, right click the local area network connection and click
Status | Support | Details. It should show:

IP Address: 192.168.0.1
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: none
DNS Server = none

2. On the laptop, right click the local area network connection and
click Status | Support | Details. It should show:

IP Address: 192.168.0.x (1<x<255)
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1
DNS Server = 192.168.0.1

3. If #1 and #2 are right, open a command prompt window on the laptop
and enter these lines. Each one should get four replies:

ping 192.168.0.1
ping 216.239.39.100
ping www.google.com
