Icons are displayed in the pulldown menu for favorites
when you first load the favorite. However, the icon
changes to the default explorer icon later. How do you
set the system to keep the original web page icon, if
available?

That's a bug with Windows . There's a program called FavOrg offered by
pcmag.com that fixes it. They used to offer it for free but they charge
now. If you search on google you can still find it for free.

You can find Favorg1.4 from this site; no charge.

Faviconizer is another program (freeware) which purportedly works in a
similar manner.

Or do this: When you notice a "favicon", search by Find Files and folders in
the TIF's>*COPY* the favicon from the folder>place in a folder you'll create
to store these>rename it whatever you want. Then change the icons for
whatever default IE icon as you see fit by using the Right-click>
properties>change icon>browse method. Although it seems slower, in the long
run it isn't. It is also more stable and permanent. Plus, if you renew the
Shelliconcache, use Sysicon cleaner, or Tweak UI to repair icons, they are
not disrupted as they would be when you rely upon the third-party programs.
There are other downsides to using the third party Favorg type programs as
well. If you have many favorites and must run Favorg to each URL, it can
take a long time, or it can even time out.

NOTE: *Copy* the favicon from the folder. *DO NOT* Cut it from the TIF's.
That will only end up corrupting the Index.dat file which will then need to
be re-created anew to fix it.
