my problem:
I set up icons on my desktop using the right
click "create shortcut" option. The icon shows up on my
desktop but when I go to use it to open up a site, it
does not work. I have XP home version.
Can any one help on this?
Thank you

The shortcuts must have the path to the site, other than that it is a
shortcut to nowhere. Did you make sure to input the path to the site?

Try this, access the site, then, in Internet Explorer, go to File, select
Send and select Shortcut to Desktop. This will create a shortcut with the
path to the site, then try use that shortcut and see if it works.

Do you have an active connection to the internet when you use the shortcut?
Also, on some frame pages you have to be very selective about where you
right click as it's possible to make a shortcut to the navigation menu
instead of the page.

If using Internet Explorer as your browser, use Internet Options> Programs
to Reset Web Settings. Also use the box for IE to check that it's the
default browser. If used correctly, you will get a message when you next
try to access web content and it will ask if IE should be the default. Say
yes.

You must find the executable file and make the shortcut from
the correct file. You can find the program you want on the
start/program file menu or you can find the .exe file in
Windows Explorer.

If you just right click on the desktop and select
"new/create shortcut" you should get a wizard which still
requires that you select the correct program/path to the
"target."
