Icons viewed at 256 colors!

Im running my WIN2k on 16-bits and it show my icons in 256
colors. My settings are the same as they were 5 days ago
and it just started doing this.

Right-click on desktop, then
Properties-->Effects Tab-->"Show Icons using all possible colors"
