Hi

I have just upgraded my system to windows 2000 sp3 with
much success. The only problem I am having is that all my
desktop icons will only display using 256 colors.

I have tried ticking the "Show icons in all possible
colours" box in the "Display Properties - Effects" control
panel, but this has no effect.

The rest of my display is fine working in true colour.

I am running a dual monitor setup and the broblem occurs
on both monitors, although each monitor is set for True
Color.

Is there anything in the registry or somewhere like that
that can be changed, or could it be related to my dual
monitor setup?

I know it sounds like a small problem, but it is very
annoying when you can't see your icons properly in the
toolbar.

If there is anyone out there who could shed some light on
this little problem or who has had a similar problem, I
would be extremely grateful for any advice you could give
me.

Thanks

I think you mean 16 coloour not 256 colour ....

If so take a look in NetMeeting as there's some settings there
that reduce the icon colour depth. I had a similar issue with one
of our users laptops after he'd been playing with NetMeeting.

Specifically, "remote desktop sharing".

Also, other remote access programs like PC Anywhere can cause
the same problem.
