My desktop icons suddenly cannot be moved or organized in any way at all. I don´t have Atuomatic Organization of icons selected. What else could I check to change this? Thank you
Trizia

To resolve this problem, follow these steps: 1.Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.2.Expand the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\RpcSs\
3.Double-click Start, type 2 in the Edit DWORD Value dialog box, and then click OK.4.Close Registry Editor, and then restart your computer.

Thanks again. I did all as indicated, but the icons continue fixed and bounce back to their original location when moved. Any further suggestions will be most welcome. Thank you.

have you tried right click on desktop, arrange icons by then untick Auto Arrange and see if that resolves it.

Regards,

Wiz

Hi trizia:
Click "start"
click "run"
type "gpedit.msc"
find User Configuration ->Administrative Templates->Desktop
double click Desktop folder
scan all items on the right template to ensure every ones "Enabled" are not selected.

find User Configuration ->Administrative Templates->Desktop->Active Desktop
scan all items on the right template to ensure each ones' "Disabled" are not selected.

If any disabled items' "Enabled" are selected please change them into "Not configured" or "Disabled" type apply enter.

hope this can help you. :-)

Thank you for your suggestions to solve my desktop icons problem. I did as you indicated but when I got to Desktop SCAN ALL ITEMS ON THE RIGHT TEMPLATE TO ENSURE ABOUT THOSE ENABLED, ETC. there is nothing on the right panel, only a blue background, with a small closed folder that does not respond to any left or right clicks. I could not go on. Any idea what I can do about this? Thank you kindly. Trizia
I just tried what you suggested on someone else´s computer and I can access all perfectly well.

I too suspect you may have been infected by some form of malware - I would suggest downloading and running HijackThis and then posting a log at a specialist interpretation site such as Bleepingcomputer.com so they can take a look.
