Hello,

I have a XP sp2 system with 3 profiles on it. When a user has any icon
on thier desktop and they delete it, such as a shortcut, it deletes the

icon from the all users folder, which deletes it from every users
desktop.

It is a pain to have the users copy and paste from all users folder.
Typically if a shortcut is deleted from a user profile, it should not
delete from all users.
Any ideas why this is happening?

Thanks

If a shortcut resides in a user's folder *only,* then it can be deleted
without changing what shows up for other users.

Unfortunately, deleting shortcuts from "all users" doesn't work the same
way. As you've already found out, deleting a shortcut from that location
deletes it for all users.

This is by design.

One thing you might try - when installing software, get rid of the shortcut
in the all user's folders and create a shortcut for each user in their own
folder. It's still extra work but then you won't have to keep checking
that everyone that wants them has their shortcuts. They can keep track of
their own instead.
