ICONS FOR JPEGS, GIFS, ETC.

I just downloaded an update version of ADOBE Reader and a PHOTO program came
along with it.

It changed all my picture icons from sunsets to ADOBE and made it so that it
was the default program to OPEN this picture files.

I've "reassociated" those files with the program I want to use (LVIEW) and
they open with LVIEW, but I forgot (since I've had this problem before) where
to go to get the SUNSET icons to come back. I've gone into FOLDERS on the
Control Panel and reset the defaults but still have the ADOBE icons. Any
ideas?

Thanks, Norm

Go ot My Computer>tools>folder options>file types:

click jpeg, jpg, etc, then the advanced tab. Click change icon. Browse to
the following location (actually enter the path in the opwn and enter).

c:\windows\system32\shimgvw.dll

This will bring up the icons you are looking for.

Not quite: I followed your instructions to the "TEE" and came up with a a
tons of icons - but the sunset icon wasn't there. I picked something else
(for the time being) and again associated those icons with LVIEW. I can't
find the SUNSET ICON.

Thanks for your help.

If by sunset you are referring to the xp default icon for images then the
folllowing tool might help.

It you go to microsoft, and type in power tools in the search for downloads,
find the tool that goes by the name of TweakUI (it is a microsoft tool),
install it, then open the program, on the last selection on the left side you
will see repair. Click on it and choose Rebuild Icons, in some situations
this works.
Also unless you use it I would uninstall the photo program that came with
the reader, it is a scalled down version of I believe photoshop ellements,
but I can not totally recall, it is a useless program for the most part
(unless you like it).

I may be misunderstanding what you mean by sunset, if it is a Lview icon,
then when you select change icon then you will just go to the LView Path and
click on the executable, this will bring up the icons for the particular
program.

Sorry if I am misunderstanding.
Also, have you restarted your computer?

Also, one other option is to right click on a image then

OK folks: per Ericcasey's advice, I dumped the ADOBE Photo program since,
yes, I would hardy ever be using it. Then, I went back to those relevant
items to change the icon (in file types) and in the group of icons to choose
from (as oppose to the boat load I got when I entered
c:\windows\system32\shimgvw.dll), the sunset, surfer, mushroom (whatever)
icon was in the group of six or seven to choose from.

Note: When I dumped the Photo program, all my picture icons on my desktop
and my picture folders reverted to the "sunset.....icons."

Thanks for the tips and the education on how this all works.
