Icons and Running any command.

I have a machine with WinXP sp2. I uninstalled my old version of Norton
Security and tried to install Norton Security. I am now not able to run any
programs on my computer. I can not even run the CMD command from Start - Run.
It just does nothing. Please help urgently. Thanks, Dave
 
Try booting to xp cd,select recovery,select 1 for C: drive,press enter key
for
password,then type:CHKDSK C: /R When its thru,type:EXIT Let xp start up.

Copy/paste the below into notepad, and save it as exefix.reg, then right
click the saved file and select "merge":

Is this a known problem with Norton Security? I guess it would secure things
pretty well if you can't run any programs at all, but if Norton Security
takes it to this extreme...<g>

Or, are you just taking a shot in the dark that Registry entries for EXE
files somehow got corrupted?

Hi Mike,

Any Norton uninstall always has hazards, it's fairly common. I'm guessing
that some of the registry entries were removed or altered during the
process.
