Icon thumbnail of Powerpoint file disappears in windows explorer.

Previously a thumbnail of the first slide of a Powerpoint presentation was
displayed on the icon of a Powerpoint file in the Windows Vista Explorer. As
soon as these powerpoint files are edited, this thumbnail on the icon
disappears from the icon and only a blank icon is displayed in the explorer
window (viewing the files in the folder using medium and large icons). I have
already tried to check and uncheck the option to save preview picture in the
file properties, but this has no effect.
Why does the thumbnail disappear from the icons in windows vista explorer
when the file has been edited ?
