I don't like the default Icon Spacing.
especially vertically.

How do I change it, but I still want the grid on.

Thanks.

James

Hi,

Right click the desktop, choose personalize. Click on Visual Appearance,
then on advanced. Change the dropdown to icon spacing and make changes to
your liking.

If you are not using AERO Glass:
Right click Desktop > click Personalize > click Visual Appearance > Advanced
in the "Item:" list box select "Icon Spacing (Vertical) > and set your
desired size.

If you are using AERO Glass
Right click Desktop > click Personalize > click Visual Appearance > click
the "Open classic appearance properties" link > Advanced > in the "Item:"
list box select "Icon Spacing (Vertical) > and set your desired size.

Neither Rick's nor Andre's replies explained my problem, which was that I
didn't know if I was using Aero or not (Vista b2 didn't tell me). So I
didn't see what Rick said I should, and it was only a bit of experimenting
and fiddling which suggested that (if Andre is right) I *am* using Aero.
Even though technically my laptop doesn't support it!

Still, I now have icon spacing sorted, thanks.

Neither Andre's nor Rick's post explains it, sorry. And Andre's post from
the day before, (headed 'icon spacing') is completely wrong.

My own computer nominally doesn't support Aero Glass (according to MS's
specs). When I click on 'Personalize/Visual Appearance', I don't have an
'Advanced' option. I have a 'classic appearance' option, and I can then
reach 'the conventional options'.

Aero is the theme. Aero Glass is the transparency effect, etc. You can
have the theme without the special effects.

Thanks, that explains something. I think it's confusing to have a theme with
the same name as the 'transparency effect'. But gosh, they've made icon
spacing even harder to find. Too many things are hidden in the 'advanced'
settings.
