This w2k is a part of a home network connected to the Internet via the router.
I used to have two iddentical icons in the lower right corner of the screen indicating that the LAN and the Internet connections are on.
Now the icon representing the Internet connection gone, thought the connection is still there - how do I recover it?

Click [Start]
Settings
Network and Diap-up Connections
Right-click the icon for your internet connection
(If you don't know which one it is, try each one)
Click Properties
Check the box labeled Show icon in taskbar when connected
Click [OK]

Thanks, but when connecting to the Internet via router with built-in ADSL
modem I did not have to set up a connection for that.
I was told the connection happens automatically as soon as I have the LAN
connection - and this how it seemed to work. But now the icon for the
Internet connection dissappered. All the connection set show the box "Show
icon when connected" ticked.

You will have one for each active adapter. If you only have one adapter,
then you will only have one icon. VPN is also counted as a "virtual"
adapter and will also have and icon. Dialup connections (old style modems)
will also be counted as a "dialup" adapter and can have an icon. The icon
will only show up for active connections.

Thanks,
but I did have two icons before one just dissapeared. Although it was one
device Vigor2600X. Actually this is a "two in one" thing - it is a router
with ADSL modem - may be this explains why I used to have two icons?
