I've got 3 winxp home PCs all with current SP1 updates: 2
laptops and 1 desktop. All PCs have at leat 384MB
memory. One laptop at a 600mhz Celeron processor. The
other laptop has a 2.4ghz processor. The desktop has a
2.2ghz processor. And no, I am not experiencing an real
performance problems on any of the PC. All PCs are
functioning quite well.
I have more of an annoyance in that I've noticed when
using the new gui style start menu as opposed to the
classic style, icons in subsequent menus, eg. Control
Planel, refresh slowly. So much so, you can watch the
default winxp icons in ctrl panel and menus get replaced
by the gui icon one-by-one.
Setting the start menu to classic style resolves the
problem. All gui icons are immediately and quickly
displayed.
I have the same problem on all 3 winxp home PCs.
I've increased the icon cache to 1000 and still have the
same symptoms on all 3.
I like the look and feel of the new gui style start menu
but do not like the slow icon refresh rates.
Does anyone have a solution to offer?
