Icon issues

I'm running w2k pro, sp4. For some months now, the icon in my desktop
shortcut for my Roxio Easy Media Creator hasn't been correct. *Most*
of the time. For no apparent reason, it'll change to be the correct
icon. It changes without any intervention on my part. (As far as I
can tell.) At this moment, it is correct.

This may, or not be related, but I have another weird problem. This
time it's with Adobe. Adobe docs are designated as "pdf" files, and
so far...always open with Adobe. But the *icon* is *not* Adobe. It's
that generic windows, square white sheet of paper, upper right hand
corner folded over, waving Windows flag in the middle icon.

I just tried, once again, to force Windows to acknowledge that Adobe
is what I always use to open a file of ".pdf". (It was not checked,
so apparently it lost the setting at some point in time.) I checked
the "Always open with..." checkbox and opened my doc. Worked fine. I
closed my doc. Explorer is still showing that doggone generic icon.

Does *anyone* have an idea of what's going on? Your repsonse is
appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Tom

Hi,

I never see such issue before but I think you can repair icons by using
Tweak UI.

Step 1 Download and install Tweak UI
======

Tweak UI is an application provided by Microsoft. With this tool, one can
customize the user interface of Windows XP easily.

1. Download Tweak UI from the following link:

http://download.microsoft.com/download/whistler/Install/2/WXP/EN-US/TweakUiP
owertoySetup.exe

2. Double-click the downloaded .exe file to install Tweak UI.

Step 2
====

1. Open Tweak UI.
2. Click Repair, choose Rebuild Icons, and click Repair now.

Suggestion 2: Change the icon size to clear the icon cache.

1. Right click on the desktop.

2. In the Right-Click Menu, choose Propertities.

3. Appearance Tab, Click the Advanced button.

4. In the Advanced Appearance windows, choose Icon from the Item list.

5. Adjust the Item Size to the minimum 33, click OK and click Apply. The
icon size will be changed as the settings.

6. Roll the size back to 32 and click OK and click Apply.

Suggestion 3: Create a new user account to see if everything is OK in this
new user profile. If it does, move the personal documents and data files
from the original user profile into the new user profile.

Suggestion 4: Run "sfc /scannow" (without the quotation marks) to correct
system files.

Hope it helps.

Best regards,
