how do i change the font color of my desktop icons???

What color do you want?

By default Windows will use white text if Display Properties> Appearance>
Advanced> Desktop is set to a dark color. It will use black if set to a
light color. However, if you have drop shadows on (an extra visual effect
in System Properties) text will be displayed using white with a hint of a
black outline.

Also, using Display Properties> Appearance> Advanced> Item: Icon, you can
select any color for text. If using the Classic theme, the color will
definitely be used. If using the XP theme, hopefully the color will stick
but you may find that it won't change or that it reverts to default black,
white or white with shadows on a restart.

my icons used to have a shadow, i think, that i could change the color of.
now there is no shadow and my walpaper is white and so the icon word do not
show up very well. i would like to have those shadows back with any colors.
any suggestions??

Using Windows only, I've only seen the text shadows with white. Have never
seen it with colored text. There may be third party customizing programs
that allow you to do what you describe but I don't know which programs
those would be.

I've edited some of my favorite light colored wallpapers using a graphics
program to darken the edges. I still get to enjoy my wallpaper but don't
have to suffer eye strain trying to read white shadowed text.

NOTE: Using a white wallpaper does not result in black text. To get black
text change the color of the *background* to something light. Same path as
in previous post: Display Properties> Appearance> Advanced> Item: Desktop.
