A really silly question - on my desktop underneath each icon I have a
written description. I want that description to be opaque or clear and there
is a blue color surrounding the words. How do I change this?
Thanks so much.

Hi Terri,

To get the effect you want, 3 things must be true -

1. You have no items on your active desktop (right-click the desktop,
properties, desktop tab, customise desktop, web tab).
2. You have not locked items on your desktop (right-click the desktop,
arrange icons by, uncheck "Lock Items on Desktop").
3. You have drop shadows selected (control panel, system, advanced tab,
performance settings button, visual effects tab, in the scroll-down box
select "use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop").

HTH Tony.

To have transparent icons, you must do all four of the following:

1) Hold down the Windows key and press Pause/Break. On the "Advanced"
tab, under "Performance" click "Settings." On the "Visual Effects"
tab, make sure the box "Use drop shadows for icon labels" is checked.

2) Right-click on the Desktop, and make sure that "Arrange Icons by"
"Lock Web items" is not checked.

3) Right-click on the Desktop, and choose Properties. On the "Desktop"
tab, click "Customize Desktop," then on the "Web" tab, uncheck all
boxes.

4) Make sure any Wallpaper is an image file. Html will stop the
transparency.

This worked perfectly. I spent a couple of hours searching for this answer.
My problem came about when I upgraded to IE 7 and several of my applications
did not support it and I reverted back to IE 6.
