IBuySpy Portal Modules

What makes something an IBuySpyControl Portal Module as opposed to just an
ASP.NET control? I'm guessing it's using the methodologies of the IBuySpy
portal (SQL Server repository)?

If you notice, all the modules inherits the class PortalModule.
