My IBM scanner does not workwith Windows XP. IBM Support instructs
me to use a function in Windows XP called Emulation. They say this
option allows the user to run and install files as if they are
running on Win 95/98/ME. Can anyone suggest how to do this?
Thanks in advance.
IBM told yout to use "emulation"? You should have talked to someone other
than the receptionist. heh
They may have been referring to the "Program Compatibility Wizard", but I
don't think that will help you with a driver issue. There is something
known as "Compatible timer hardware emulation" that enables MS-DOS-based
programs to reduce the rate at which the computer's timer sends timing
signals.. But that sounds wrong too.
Essentially, if your scanner does not have drivers for XP and the drivers
for Windows 98/2000 don't allow it to run, you are usually out of luck.
Time to get a new scanner, essentially. It is HIGHLY unlikely that the
"Program Compatibility Wizard" would be of any assistance in this case.
MANY people I know have been forced to buy new scanners when they get
Windows XP.. They were forced to get them before when they got Windows 98.
It's an evil cycle, but one the manufacturers will continue. I mean - if
you could buy one $45-$100 scanner and keep it for 50 years while they
support it - they got screwed. *grin*
