Hello All not sure if you can help but I would be so appreciative if
y'all could. I am using a IBM Infoprint 21 and every time I print
across the network, I get a page preceeding it with PJL code on it. I
can't find any documentation in my IBM manuals that say this is
something you can turn off within the printer. I was looking EVERYWHERE
and the only thing that I found that looked remotely close to what was
happening was something called "Banner Pages". I have only seen info on
how to turn these off in Linux and we use Novell. We are using PCL5
drivers. When we use PS drivers it gets even worse and the whole print
out comes out in PJL code and numbers. I know this is a horrible
description but I can answer more questions. Thanks in advance for all
your help.

Well, no. HP made a lot of printers that understand PCL as a print
language. Most of these printers also understand PJL, a printer job
language.

From the description, you are using a PCL driver that thinks the printer
also understands PJL, and the IBM printer does not understand PJL. So
you see the PJL command printed as text.

Banner pages show the name of the user who sent the print job, often in
large print, and are probably not what you are seeing.

PJL commands are something like <ESC>%-12345X. Your printer may show
that slightly differently.

Your print job could be going straight from your computer to the
printer, or it could be going through the old Novell print server
software.

Yes, but they are PCL5 drivers that also send PJL commands.

You need to use drivers that either send PCL5 without the PJL commands.
Maybe an earlier version of a PCL driver, like PCL3, would not have the
PJL commands. Or there may be a specific driver for the Infoprint 21.
Since you did not mention exactly which operating system or drivers you
are using, it's hard to be more precise.

Interestingly, IBM's support web page for the Infoprint 21 has PCL5/6
and PostScript drivers for various operating systems, and the
specifications say it supports both. PJL isn't mentioned.

You may have the wrong driver, or the printer may have been configured
to ignore PJL or PostScript.
