My IBM HD failed after about ten months. My tech got an RMA and sent
it in for replacement to Hitachi who now runs IBM's warranty service.

We waited over a month and never heard a word from them. We called
yesterday and they stated they didn't have any drives to replace it
with and they MIGHT have one in two or three weeks!! They would not
send us any other drive because it is their policy to only replace
with the same part number.

Eight weeks to get back up and running again---maybe? Anyone have any
similar experiences with IBM stuff and do you have any advice as to
what I should do?

One thing is for sure---neither I nor my company is ever going to
purchase another IBM or Hitachi product!!!

I RMA'd a DTLA-37045 off to Singapore last Wednesday, should get there early
this week.

How the hell could they have the cheek to replace it with the same model,
when so
many have died because of what is a very basic design fault ???

Anyway, wait and see, but it's looking like I've done the $17.50 freight.

They are only obligated to replace with a like kind.

When I got the replacement drives they immediately went on eBay for sale.

Because they've found the fault and have fixed it, or at least, found a way to
minimize the problem that causes it. Anyone who has a DTLA series drive should
get the firmware update advisor program from Hitachi and run it to see what
upgrase they need. Replacement drives should hopefully come ith the new
firmware.
