I've got an old IBM 4029 that I've been using for about 12 years.
It's built like a tank, and nowadays it seems like it's just about as
fast as one. I've got the PS card and an additional 8MB of memory. I
use it as a PPDS printer under Win98, and a PS printer under Linux.
PPDS printing speed is not too bad, but the PS can be quite slow. It
only understands PS level 1.

Does anyone know any tricks for speeding one of these things up? Is
there anyway to overclock the processor, for example?

thanks,

Tom

no, keep your feets on the ground.
PS printing was never fast on the 4019/4029/4039 printers.
let's say it's just fantastic that your 12 year old printer still works
today !

"If it works, don't #@^%! with it" - old military saying

I wouldn't mess with it if I were you. Count your blessings that the
old work horse still trots. I felt like crying when my 4029 had to be
put down after "only" 5 years and about 12,000 pages. It had max RAM,
Postscript, and even several font cards. Lovely old printer, and I miss
it. Two years ago I relented, bought a rebuilt Epson C-80 for $75.
That has been a sad experience too.
