I have just installed an IBM 3581 Autoloader on a Windows 2003 server.
My intention is to use it with Veritas Backup Exec in Sequential mode.
Following the directions in the product manual I power the device on
with no tapes in the drive wait for "Seq done" to display then load the
4 tapes I have into slots 1-4. When I select "Seq Start" the display
says "Seq Ready" then loads the tape from slot 1 into the drive when it
is done loading that tape it displays the error "Src Empty." I've
tried a couple of different things but always get this error and in
windows the drive says it is empty even though the tape from slot 1 has
been loaded. The drivers I have installed are from IBM's website and I
installed the ones that said they would work best with Windows Backup.
Can anyone confirm this is a hardware problem and not a novice tape
drive user error as this is the first tape drive I've ever installed.
