Hi,

I work with pro audio. Now I work with an old i845+2.53GHz (Northwood) and
gonna build a new setup. I don't play games so graphics isn't important,
memory&CPU counts. Do you think it makes sense to go into new chipsets or
build i875 based system?

Regards,
jh

The 915s are pretty cheap and so are some of the lower end prescotts.
It also has PCI express slots and DDR2 . The ones Ive seen have both
DDR and DDR2 slots so you can use the DDR2 later.

I havent seen any PCI express audio boards so I dont know if this
represents a future improvement or not. I had a problem before trying
to add a Maxtor/Promise IDE card on my ASUS so Im much more receptive
to getting some PCI express slots. I maybe totally offbase but there
were some persistent reports from people having audio problems with
ASUS and other boards and when I added the IDE card so I could add
more HDs I got horrendous stuttering problems with my ASUS board on
the audio side which I couldnt cure despite moving the card to every
slot on the board while taking everything else out and finding new
drivers etc. I finally ended up getting SATA to IDE converters
instead.

The older 875 has the benefit of running Northwood CPUs - some of
which are dirt cheap and can easily OC quite a bit.
