JeffK.

The i850 in the store printed real fast. The one I set up at home seems
to take a lot longer.

Any suggestions on what to check?

TIA,

JeffK.

How have you connected it,USB or parallel? What speed USB? Is your PC
similar spec to shop?

None of those should make much of a difference really, since the printer
will print slower than it receives the data.

I suspect the print quality is set to "High" in the driver and it's
taking longer to print than the default "Standard" setting.

What are you printing and what was the store printing? Unless you are
printing the same thing, how can you tell?

Actually, it probably prints faster than the data gets to it. It
reminds
me of a line printer -- it bangs out a paragrpah and waits a moment.

It might be the parallel line issue.

I'll have to check.

Thanks for the response,
JeffK.

Thanks for the response!

I'll check the cabling -- I am using the daisy chained parallel feature.

Interesting. In the olden days, serial was the doggy connection and
parallel was the hot thing.

They printed a 4x5in or so photograph with a very colorful banner above
and below the picture.

I'm just doing b&w text.

If I can fix this issue, and it sounds like there's room to improve, I
might
be able to duplicate the result. Right now it is a bit faster than my
BCJ-6000, but I'm looking for the 18-22ppm they promised.

Make sure you select "Grayscale Printing" mode so the 320 nozzles for
black-only ink is being used. If you do that, on "Standard" quality
setting, it should spit out an 8.5x11 page of text in several seconds.

Use ECP-printing mode if you have such a printerport.
Turn on High speed printing, and turn off silent mode.

When I dumbed it down, it speeded up a lot -- kind of what I expected.

But I did get a nice picture at a fast speed when I saw it in the store.

So, I was able to speed it up by going total B&W for text and dropping
the quality to minimal, and have not tried changing the cable from
parallel
to USB.

I played with settings a bit. It turns out I was using a very high
resolution for printing even my text which turns out had colored
text for foot notes and tags.

When I dropped the resolution to draft, and went to dithering on quality
of output, and minimized drying time it spit sheets out quite nicely.

Just remember to experiment with drying time if you're printing photos
on new types of paper. I've found that on some paper slowing it right
down can make a huge difference to print quality of photos. Most of
the time it doesn't change a thing, however it's always worth trying.
