My i850 is a few months old and the yellow tank is half-gone. I would like
to try
some refills. I understand refill ink quality varies. I would like my first
refill experience to be a pleasant one. I would appreciate hearing from
anyone with good or bad expereince with refills for this printer.
I often do borderless print on KODAK Satin paper with super results. I expect
that consumes a lot of ink. My previous printer was a HP722c. That also seemed
to use up the yellow first. But, the 850 produces better pictures.

I have good results with atlatcopy.com ink. malis will get you a
5% discount coupon. 4oz of cyan and mangenta, 8 oz of yellow
and black came to $51.86. That would have cost $500 in individual
tanks.

Everyone wants a pleasant experience. I refill my i850 using inks from
atlanticinkjet.com and have been a customer 3 printers back. I buy
bulk size 250 ml bottles because it's cheaper (since I already have
enough syringes) and because I split the order with my sister. They
also sell small, empty plastic bottles, handy for splitting orders.
I see no visible difference in printouts, and I'm pretty fussy.
Photos seem identical in side by side tests and text has that same
"Canon" sharpness. On a satisfaction scale I have no choice but to give
my refilling experience a 100% "pleasant" rating. Never have I loved
refilling as much as with these BCI-3e cartridges. Can't wait to run
out! Nothing beats 'em, and I've refilled all the brands - HPs,
Lexmarks and Epsons. But the important detail is that it costs me
only about $5 to refill all 4 cartridges (using bulk ink). Is that
pleasant enough for you. I see you're in the States, but they also
have a division in Canada, in New Brunswick, where I get my ink
from. I believe the US division is in neighboring Maine, if I recall
correctly. Not sure, never dealt with the US division.

I'd stay away from dirt cheap cartridges on eBay. You get what you
pay for. Had a bad experience, the ink feathered something terrible.
Not at all like Canon's fine ink, nor Atlantic's, which I find is a
great match. The only reason I tried the eBay cartridges was because I
had just bought the Canon printer and was unfamiliar with refilling it.
I figured these eBay carts where so inexpensive, I wouldn't need to
refill. My mistake. I chucked the 8 cartridges and immediately ordered
4 bottles of bulk ink. I was relieved when the quality was as good
as Canon's. Am I worried about clogging? Not at all. I've never even
had to clean the print head.

Reminder, refill as soon as you get the "low ink" warning. If you wait
till it tells you that the cartridge is now empty, you will have a
rather difficult time priming the system, getting it to print again.
That happened to me the first time. Now when 1 cartridge reads low I
remove all three as a unit and replace them with my second set. You'll
find that this is the most convenient sytem. But it requires that you
have two complete sets of cartridges. I got my second set from Costo
(two blacks and 3 colors) for a good price - basically you get 1
cartridge free.

Try www.atlanticinkjet.com for refill kits or bulk ink. The Canon BCI-3e
cartridges are VERY easy to refill since they are clear and they don't
have any chips to reset or contacts to tape over.

If you have an Office Depot near you, try their Premium Photo paper. It
produces excellent results and is cheaper than the name brands like
Kodak or Canon.
