I have an excel spreadsheet that I have been using as a pipeline, and I
would like to import the contact data into outlook contacts in order to
consolidate my mailing list. The error message says that the excel
translator does not recognize the file, or that the file may be corrupt. Now
what?

We have had a few cases where Excel files have been submitted to us that
were found to be unusable when accessed directly - the file was indeed
corrupt internally but still functioned within Excel so to the owner - all
looked normal which may or may not be the case with your file assuming it's
a supported version of Excel etc etc
Quick solution to your requirement:
#1 - Save your worksheet as a CSV file and import that file into Outlook
using the Outlook import wizard.
