Hey,

i had a look at the thread about what crunching is all about and i have started downloading the software. However im not sure of my cooling system will be able to handle it, so can anyone help me identify my cooling system? and if it is up to the task?

many thanks :)

We can try........But we will need to know the pc spec and the cooling you have. :)

processor: AMD Athlon 2400 running at 2.0GHz.
1GB Pc3200 ram
Gf 6600GT card.

i dont know what my cooling system is though, how can i find that out? :)

Have a look inside your case

I asume you have the stock heatsink for your CPU, and a couple for fans in the case? (One in the front sucking air in and one on the back sucking air out?)

Would be great to have you onboard Michael - I'm pretty sure your cooling will be up to scratch :)

You could always give it a go for a few hours and see how it goes?

Thats seems like the best bet.

I would also use BOINC with your CPU Michael 118. :thumb:

Download this program ... http://www.stvsoft.com/index.php?page=2 ... and tell us what is says now, before installing WCG.

Then install WCG and have the program running ... have your heartattack pills handy and keep an eye on the temp ... anything below 50c is fine for that CPU.

;)

Okay, installed the software:

CPU: 0*C/32*F
SYS: 55*C/ 131*F
AUX: 39*C/103*F
HDO: 36*/97*F

memory usage: about 39-41%

FANS: CPU fan: 5000 rpm
SYS fan: 0 rpm
AUX fane: 2123 rpm.

good, bad? :)

err, not too good ... you can't have a system temp of 55 & CPU of 0, so the sensors must be wrong and I would say that is your CPU temp @ 55 ... you can change which sensor is wich in the program.

Is that running WCG or just idle temps?

oh with WCG running

how may i do that?

thanks:)
right-click the icon in the system tray and go to settings ... there you can chang the sensors over/around.

Ok, well if that IS with WCG running, then you are a tad warm for my liking ... it would be better under or around the 50c mark ... try taking the side off the case and see if it drops.

The first sensor for my CPU says 61*C, the second one says 41*C and the third one says 0*C
thats with WCG running, but i could remove some more programs and lower that temp

Removing programs will NOT lower your temps ... you need better cooling ... suspend/stop/turn off WCG for now untill you can get it cooler.

shame i cant help at the moment, birthday coming up i think i know what i want to purchase :D
oh you can run WCG, it's just I'd rather you had your temps down in the low 50s or under. I don't wan't to find you burnt out your CPU.

Get a better HSF ... :thumb:

Top of list of things to do :D

any specific make or brand thats worth taking a look at?
I haven't a clue what is the flavour this month ... I just use the stock HSF that came with my CPU and only have a cheapo on the 2500 ... one of the others will know how to spend £50 on a HSF for you though. :D

Before you buy, make sure you have space above your CPU for the cooler you choose.
Cheers
