Hi all,
Previously I could help my sister with Remote assistance.
We put in a router so she could run 2 pcs on her cable
modem. Now I can't see her any more. What do I do now so
that I can help her from my home in Boston. She is in NY
so any help would be appreciated.
What do I type to contact her as MSN messenger invites
don't work anymore.
Thanks for your time.
Ken

What is the name and type of the piece of equipment that has been added?
Most likely you just need to have the router forward port 3389/TCP to the
private IP address of the PC you are trying to reach.

Hope this helps,

Thank you so much for responding.

It is a linksys router I tried to call her to get the
model. It is probably only a year old and it was the
latest and greatest at the time. We can update it using a
web browser. Your explanation is a bit technical for me
though.
I know how to figure out her IP that was assigned by the
router and I know the IP address since we cloned her Nic
to the router. I guess I know enough to be dangerous. LOL
Could you possibly explain some menus?

URL's may wrap

Here's the tech support link for that router:
http://support.dlink.com/Products/view.asp?productid=DI-704

Here's the link for opening ports:
http://support.dlink.com/faq/view.a...=DI-704 / DI-704P / DI-707 / DI-713 / DI-713P

What you'll want to do is forward port number 3389 to the IP address of your
sister's machine. This address is probably going to be of the format
192.168.0.x. Then check the enable box. When you try to connect after this
make sure to use the Router's IP address. If you haven't changed carriers
since adding the router than it would be the same public IP you used before.

Hope this helps,
