I used to connect automatically..but now I can't

I don't know what is going on with my computer..but the save password and
connect automatically boxes are grayed out (inaccessible) in the logon box.
My password is there..and highlighted..I just have to press "connect" and it
works from there..but I used to be able to open internet explorer and it
would automatically connect...any suggestions? Thanks...
