just lost please can someone help thanks in dvance

Larry,

When Access compacts a database, it actually puts all
compacted data in a temporary .mdb called dbX.mdb (X is a
number such as 1,2 etc.) in the same folder as the
original one, and when done it deletes the original and
renames the dbX.mdb to the original name. With any luck,
you might find this dbX.mdb file in your folder.

By the way: big databases take a long time to compact, and
the more indices you have the longer it gets, even more so
if it's on a network drive etc. Be sure to give it enough
time, and note that while Access is performing calculating
tasks it always appears as not responding in the task
manager even though it eventually finishes and appears as
running again! Bottomline... don't rush into closing it
forcedly.

HTH,
Nikos
