I got a little excited getting a new ( old ) computer and started downloading
a lot of music and games. Unfortunatlye my anti virus was not set up and now
I am trying to fix the problem by creating a boot disk good idea? not so much
as the computer doesn't recognize that it has a floppy drive so all I end up
doing is spinning my wheels so to speak. I've had this computer for less than
a montha nd I can't even go two seconds without a virus dectected all I want
is to format the c: drive and start a clean install ( that is I think thats
what I should be doing )

He's probably got XP but has no CD and doesn't realise you boot from the CD.

To the original poster, did you get a Windows XP CD when you bought the
computer?

Did you get any recovery CDs? Post back with the info and someone will tell
you how to reinstall Windows.

Be very careful as if you create a Boot floppy or use an old one you might
end up deleting all the partitions including the hidden one with the needed
Windows files.

Yes I got a windows xp silver shiny cd when I got the computer it is a
registered version but it is a second hand computer they said it was a clean
install though so the fault seems to lie with me ( that and downloading the
Sims off Limewire) p.s. I'm a she I have a about as much luck with cars as I
do computers at least for nowlol. I tried to download of the website given
but Its says I have to be a computer administratpor. Mine is the only account
and has administrator acess there fore aren't I the administrator?
also when I try booting from the cd it says the same thing and arguing with
a screen is no use, it still won't let me load of the disk;P If anyone ahs
ideas that would be wonderful

Also I forgot to mention that the virus is infecting some of m windows files
such as
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\WINLOG.EXE the virus is called W32/Sdbot.OUS and there
have been others also something called silly worm poped up? what the hades is
that?
I can't seem to delete the infected filed or isolated them ( stupid TElus
virus scanner) this computer has four days before its gonna cost me three
hundred to fixand then I''ll be about ready to boot the disk drive and nto
with a floppy augh!

I find it hard to know exactly what you are doing. You tried to download
what, from which web site?

When you boot from the CD you shouldn't get any windows mentioning admin
access unless you go to the recovery console where you get asked for a
password.

To boot from the CD you put the disc in the drive and press the start button
on the computer. Assuming the CD drive is first boot device the computer
will start from the CD and boot into the setup menu. Read the instruction.
If you press the letter R at the first screen you will be taken to the
recovery console and that will ask for an admin password. Instead of
pressing R I think you press enter but I can't remember. Just read the
screen, its quite obvious.

The best thing you can do if you want to reinstall Windows on a clean hard
drive is look at one or two web sites which detail reinstalling windows in
much more detail than I can go into here.
