HELP!

Even when I clean the history file in IE6, there is still
folders and files when I right click and click on
properties on the History folder in Windows.

How can I completely clean the folder of everything that
is not system related? I also used KB article Q323687
where you start the computer in the safe mode and it was
no help.

Any ideas????

Did you clear your history from within internet options
under the tools at the top of IE browser?
Also did you clear out all temp and offline files while
there too?
Then close your browser and reboot it.... also to clear all
forms in 'autocomplete' will get rid of search history and
the like.
Then reboot and reopen your browser..... I have ie6 and sp2
and it worked for me.
luck, shelaght

No joy! I cleared, all off-line files, cookies, history,
autocomplete and passwords in IE options and rebooted.
I'm still running 98SE on this machine until I get my new
one later this year. My IE is up to date with all SP's

Might have to create a new History folder as it is possibly become
corrupted.

If you're really worried about stuff in your history or cookies or
temporary internet files, get disk wiping software like Eraser --
http://www.heidi.ie/eraser/ -- since deleting files doesn't actually
delete them - even if you bypass the recycle bin. The "deleted" files
can be restored easily, and even when they can't the deleted file
names can be easily read.

If you're not that paranoid, just delete the Cookies, Temporary
Internet Files and History folders the normal way.

If you're running as user, log in as administrator if some files won't
delete. If you're already logged in as administrator, create another
administrator account and do it from that account.

IE just recreates the folders you've removed, brand new.

This applies to Win2k (so I assume WinXP) but I don't know about
Win9x. I just noticed your (?) post saying you have Win98 (aka DOS +
GUI), and a solution being provided.

Maybe the above is not recommended practice from The Experts, but it's
worked for me when something's been corrupt and when you type URLs
they are completed, however much you delete the history or clear the
cache. Autocomplete can be useful sometimes, but very annoying at
other times.

Dear "Anon" <vbg>

I am glad it quickly resolved the problem for you. <S> Musta been the "echo"
effect (??), although I didn't notice a first shout from across the void.

Anyway... carry on...Anon. ;-)
