Stupid me deleted a whole bunch of files in the
C:\Documents and Settings\MYUSERPROFILE\Local Settings\Temp folder and now
IE wont start up.. It crashes right away and I get the "Microsoft IE 6
encountered a problem and needs to be restarted" screen. Its the one where
you can send Microsoft the report... ANYWAY..

I tried reinstalling the newest version, I tried uninstalling... there I was
givev the option to revert back to a previous version of IE or fix the
problem, (neither worked)... A format of the harddrive is NOT an option at
this point... I am considering re-installing just windows but am afraid I
will end up losing ALOT of files and programs. I am currently using AVANT as
a browser but seems certain apps NEED IE...

Anyone have any suggestions???? HELP!!!!!

Deleting those files should not cause IE to crash or not start. Have you
checked for sypware/adware, etc.?

yes! no viruses, no spyware... I dodnt think it should cause the problems
either.. but the problem started right after I deleted these files! I
emptied out my recycle bin and lunched IE and there was the problem.

Hi,
Try running repair on IE.
194177 - Description of the Internet Explorer Repair Tool:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;194177
318378 - How to Reinstall or Repair Internet Explorer and Outlook Express in
Windows XP:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q318378

And/or... From Control Panel> Internet Options> Advanced> uncheck "Enable
third party
browser extensions."
If that allows IE to open and run, work through the solutions (CWShredder,
Ad-aware, Spybot) at
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm Also note the security tips on that
page.

try start,control panal,internet
connections,internet,advanced,uncheck''enable third party
browser extensions'',apply. and see if it will launch. if
so then update your spyware killers and scan again.
spybot safer-networking.org
ad-aware lavasoftusa.com
update both before scan
spybot also is now version 1.3

CWShredder reported that there were no infections...

I tried the repair tool already... no help there.... lemme try the "third
party browser ext" next...

Billy.. and Others!!!! THANK YOU!!!! The "third party" setting seems to
have worked!!! A MILLION THANK YOU'S!!!

Now... Whats this setting and what does it do and WHY did it keep IE from
Launching?!?!?!

As suggested by Jan || get these tools also.

Get AdAware and SpyBot and run them both. Keep them up to date.

If all fails then you will need help from experts, the new CoolWebSearch
variant is not yet removed by CWS, it's a nasty one.

The infection is similar to this onel.
