I reinstalled - now what?

Another OS installed itself over XP Pro. I did an XP Pro IBM T42
Factory Content reinstall - 8 CDs. Now every time it reboots it runs
the same recovery setup that's on Disk 1, except it's obviously on the
system itself now (yes, I pulled the last recovery CD out) - time after
time after time.

If anyone has done this XP Pro reinstallation on a T42, I'd appreciate
knowing how I am supposed to run XP now.

Thanks.

You mean you installed another OS?

Ah - sort of...
What OS came with the IBM T42?

Hmmm.. That sucks - but most 'recovery/restoration' methods do...
The clean install from an actual OS CD is really the way to go.

It's not really a re-installation (or even an installation) of any sort. It
is essentially applying an image or (maybe) doing some unattended install -
but it doesn't sound like that from your description.

You are going to have to contact IBM and ask them. They created this
'method' of recovering that particular model (it could be fore more
systems - but in general - such methods are specific to makes/models/types
of computers...)

The number of items IBM has for such a restore is scarey...

I thought I had posted in reply to this, but I don't see it here. The
hard drive was zeroed out and, as I posted, I did a Factory Content
"recovery" - which is a complete 8 CD reinstallation.

I called IBM and learned that what they didn't put in the instructions
is that you have to run the whole thing twice. You run it once off the
set of CD's taking about an hour, then it pops up again from off the
hard drive and you have to tell it to do exactly the same Factory
Content "recovery" a second time. It takes less time working from the
hard drive, obviously, but I'm now up and running - altho the actual IBM
installation is much different from the one that came on it when I
bought the laptop. And MS tells me I have over 70 updates to do.

Thanks
