I received an announcement of the demise of FrontPage 2003 but I am very
confused on what one of the four programs is its replacement. I develop
websites that use most of the functions of FrontPage 2003. URL
http://www.kittydunes.com

Could someone please help me with comments on what to review. I have looked
at two of them and am now very confused.

FrontPage 2003 will be around and supported for a few more years.

But clearly Microsoft wants us to move on but they sure don't make it clear
how we should go about doing so. Is the Web Development Express (not sure if
this is the correct name off the top of my head) package always going to
free? Do we need to find web hosts that support ASP.Net 2.0 to fully use
these new tools? I really wish this information would have come out sooner.
Does anyone know when Microsoft made this announcement? Also, I came across
this info on Microsoft's website and the little blurb stated that FrontPage
was going bye-bye after nine years. I could swear I was using FrontPage
before 1997. Have pre FrontPage 97 products being wiped from Microsoft's
memory? Probably once Office 12 (2007?, Vista?) comes out they'll never
again acknowledge FrontPage's existence.

It's Expressions Web Designer and no it won't be free.

Only if you want to use ASP.NET

The name "FrontPage" is going away

Only those that are no longer supported.

Support for FrontPage will continue.

"Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2005 Express" is a very much cut down
version of Visual Studio.NET 2005, and is not related to FrontPage
(except in the sense you can use it to develop web sites).
FrontPage is being replaced by two products - Expressions Web Designer
and SharePoint Web Designer.
The latter is to be used mainly for SharePoint webs, EWD is aimed at
all other types of website.
FrontPage itself will continue to be supported in these newsgroups,
and by Microsoft for a few years yet.
FrontPage 1.1 appeared towards the end of 1995. The 9 years possibly
refers to the year (2003) the last version was placed on the market -
should that be 8 years?

I believe, in part that OP is talking about Visual Studio Web Developer
Express 2005 (free download from Microsoft for limited time) which is not
the same thing was the new "Expressions Web Developer" which is replacing
Frontpage - Visual Studio has been around for a while, which is the premier
..Net development tool by Microsoft.

Expressions is simply going to incorporate some of that technology, combined
with the best of Frontpage to create a new product, probably on a parallel
with Dreamweaver in terms of complexity and professional development tools.
