I ran out of Drive letters

I have too many necessary network drives that I connect to at boot,
that I can't assign anymore.
I can't even use a thumb drive on my machine without unmapping a
network drive first.

1) is there a way to get more drives (don't know how to assign them
since I ran out of drive letters)
2) is there a way to dump the B: drive (since I don't use it and
reassign that to an assignable drive)
Thanks

Depending on where your mappings are located maybe you could
map to a machine rather than a directory. Say you have mapped
drives for 6 directories on one machine simply map to it's
root directory then navigate from there. A bit a of a pain
but it would free up drive letters.

I don't know if this is doable with your network. If lots of folks are
having the same problem maybe your network admin can come up with a
solution like "joining" drives that are on the same machine.

Our network adminstrators I think caused this problem as last year we
switched from server names to these universal names that makes the
server transparent. This simplifies trying to find a folder since all
you need is to map to the folder name. But you are correct, now I
have to map to each folder rather than to the server that conatins the
folders. Crummy idea I think

The problem lays with whoever devised the share structure. It should be
nested so if you need access to several related folders you can map a folder
farther up the tree. Is it possible that some of the shares you are mapping
are also available by mapping farther up the tree? You can also add folders
to My Network Places rather than mapping a drive.

Really? TWENTY-odd drives? Shouldn't you be looking at the design of your
network? That's WAY too many.
