I had a harddrive crash yesterday. I had a bad mobo and after
changing the CPU, power supply, memory, cards, and drives, I realized
the mobo was a goner. The harddrive was working until I kicked the
computer (after it would not start again). The kick busted the front
plastic panel, bent the metal case, knocked out the video card which
was not screwed in place, and afterwards that harddrive was dead (when
placed into another computer). I guess a hard blow causes that heads
to hit the platter, and I did find scratches in it. Anyhow, I opened
the harddrive while it was running. I was shocked when I was still
able to get a DIR from the dos prompt. (Before I opened it, there
were 14 bad sectors before scandisk refused to run anymore, but I
could still boot it to dos. It was interesting to watch it run while
open. I thought that once opened, it would not be able to read any
data. This one did.....
I'm gonna rip the whole thing apart just for fun....
