Triplicate post. Just one is usually enough to get your problems answered.
Am I going to find more as I go through the groups? It gets very boring
after a while typing the same thing over and over again!

Already responded to the first.

Last count, I think it was 6 times you have posted. In the future, at least
show the common courtesy of posting with the correct time! Seeing your posts
so many times is nuisance enough without having to see them over and over
and over again. This applies in particular to those of us who prefer to view
our news in descending order.

Try a repair install. Upgrade your existing XP with XP.

So, David, did your repair install go well?

A repair install can help but won't necessarly. It depends. I wouldn't bother trying it as it's very much the last choice. A clean install is the way to go.

I was going to write that there is no requirement to wipe a disk to do a clean install. But he specifed programs not data and a repair install is his only option to try.

Mind you I think he's lazy.

The people at the store gave you wrong information. Do a Repair Install
http://www.webtree.ca/windowsxp/repair_xp.htm look for How To Run A Repair
Install . Make sure you follow the instructions closely and you should be
OK. I swapped out boards and move HDs from one system to another this way
many times.
