I am not an experienced user but I have a Dell Inspiron
8000 with Windows 2000 Professional. I have been using a
HP 1220C and a HP 2200. In a new location, I need to pring
on an HP 722C. I have the disk that came with the printer
but it is labeled for Windows 3.1x, 95, and NT 4.0.

When I try to download a driver from this disk, it gives a
failure message.

Can anyone help with a location where I can download the
correct driver? The Microsoft web site doesn't seem to
have one and the HP web site simply says the printer is
discontinued.

Any help will be appreciated.

There is no need to download a driver as windows 2000
supports it.

Local printer
Follow these instructions to install the printer driver.

Click Start, Settings, then Printers.
Double-click Add Printer.
Click Next.
Select Local, then click Next.
Select Port (usually LPT1) then click Next.
Choose HP from the Manufacturer list.
Choose the printer model from the printer list, then click
Next.
Select Yes if this printer is the default printer, or
select No if this printer will only handle selected print
jobs. Click Next to continue.
Leave as Do Not Share at the Printer Sharing Window and
click Next.
Select No to skip the test page then click Next.
Click Finish to complete the installation.
If asked for a Windows disk, insert the appropriate
Windows or PC Recovery disk and follow the instructions on
the screen. Once the driver has been installed, it will be
listed in the Printers window (Start, Settings, and
Printers).
