I need some help please

I typed some info in a Word document. Now when I try to delete some info and
replace it.....it just draws a line through it and turns it red then shows
the new info normally. WHY, did I hit a button I shouldn't have? How do I
stop this so I can delete unneeded info? Thanks for any help you can give me.
 
THANKS! I'd never even heard of Tracking *L*. I must have clicked it in
error. Again, Thank You.
 
That's pretty hard to do accidentally. Probably it got turned on by
Ctrl-Shift-E.
