I need serious buffer tweaking.

I am trying to run a high-end music recording/mixing
application and I need WinXP tweaked up on startup for
this application. I don't need WinXP figuring out on the
fly on how to configure disk caching and buffers for other
functions. I need it configured up front.

Is there any really good documentation on buffering in
Windows XP Pro?

There are other items that need tweaked as well for such
an application to run at optimum efficiency. Is there any
really good documentation that covers Windows XP Pro in
depth? I know this is not casual reading, but I am not a
casual user.

Hi John,

Windows XP does not need to manually configure for the application
performance. The system will try to change the configuration automatically.

If it's necessary, we can manually change the application priority in the
Task Manager.

Note: set the priority to "Above Normal" or High is enough. Please don't
set to the "Real Time" since the computer may hang if the application
hangs.

If the application will generate the heavy disk access, we can set more
disk cache.

Anyway, I think the application needs heavy computer process. To add more
memory for the computer can provide better performance.

Are there any good reference books on Windows Internals
such as what the registry is capable of configuring?

Hit and miss stuff on the internet is not really the way I
want to go.

I need some default settings WAY beyond the simple tweaks
via the standard interface options that are presented.

I know this is an unusual request. I definitely fall into
the power user category. I am a programmer/analyst and
understand the ramifications of making such system
changes.

I would like to find a good reference on just what is
available. And yes, I have found some very good
information under MSDN and also at the Windows 2000 site
(where XP is quite similar if not the same under the hood
in several places).

I would like a reference that lays what is available out
on the table. I think a lot of people would like such a
reference, especially systems people and folks that write
drivers.

Hi John,

I think the following books are good to learn more about the Windows XP.

Windows XP Registry Guide:

Windows XP Inside Out:
